‘Inclusion Health: Everybody’s Business’
Conference 2024
Inclusion Health Conference has come to a close
The Inclusion Health section conference was held on the 13th September in INMO Richmond centre. The conference demand exceeded any of our expectations with a sellout conference with 117 registrants. We were firstly greeted by our keynote speaker Dr Mary Tilki, who spoke of her own experiences of working in London during the troubles whilst also noting the experiences of other Irish people who had emigrated to Britain. Her work with the Irish in Britain and other ethnic minority groups set the scene for an enriching, informative and often lively conference.
Those present were privileged to here from those working with inclusion health groups whether frontline or in academia. With twelve presentations throughout the day, areas covered included migrant primary health, LGBTQIA+ , HIV and other chronic disease integrated care programmes, Paediatric Inclusion health programmes, Homeless health, the valuable work of Peer programmes, Vicarious Trauma and many other topics.
The posters did not go unnoticed either with fourteen posters representing further work in Inclusion Health. Posters were independently judged with best poster going to Denise Scott CNS in VTE from the Mater hospital. The panel discussion of speakers were nurses who represented disability, international staff and LGBTQIA+, where they discussed marginalisation within the caring professions which was enriching and informative.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and momentum is building within Inclusion health nursing which ultimately will benefit not just the staff working with Inclusion Health populations but to the benefit of the patients we serve.
